Brand Description

Visitors traveling from Siena into Chianti Classico are greeted by the historic site of Villa Cerna as they cross the first hill into the famed sub-region. The villa itself is an old monastery, dating back to the 11th century CE. The monks that lived on the land tended to the surrounding vineyards and agriculture, including 1001 olive trees planted in the year 1001 to celebrate the new millennium. In fact, some of these trees still produce fruit that goes into Villa Cerna's aptly-named olive oil, "Milleuno." Undoubtedly though, the most important production of the estate is their two classic expressions of Sangiovese: "Primocolle" (meaning "first hill") Chianti Classico and their eponymous Chianti Classico Riserva. The Cecchi family places a special focus on hospitality at Villa Cerna, using it to showcase the values shared by each of their properties. Its strategic location at the "gates" of Chianti Classico makes it well-suited to welcome visitors to the famed appellation, offering beautiful dining experiences at their restaurant, Foresteria, and greeting travelers with stunning architecture, sweeping vineyard views, and of course their signature wines

NOTES OF

SCENT & FLAVOR

COLOR

Deep colour, almost opaque.

NOSE

Aroma of excellent complexity, with wild bush and spicy notes like curry, pepper and ginger, red berries and black fruits mixed with a light cacao touch, the result of a good maturation, along with a slightly stony finish.

PALATE

On the palate it has a powerful attack, with a lively acidity, firm and well present tannins, wild bush and red berry notes, with an extremely long finish and great concentration.

“Thanks to the characteristics and potential of the vineyards at Quinta do Seixo, it was possible to cut through the strong maturations of this year's harvest. As a result, we produced very balanced and robust wines, with aromatic notes typical of more mature years.” - Luís Sottomayor, head of Sogrape's winemaking

ORIGINS

Quinta do Seixo Vintage is a unique expression of this renowned estate, where a combination of soil, slope inclination, sun exposure and reduced amount of available water contribute to the production of intense and complex wines. The 100-year-old vines producing Port create wines full of intensity, character and freshness.
