Description

Our Oloroso Sherry barrels are procured from the Andalusia region of southwestern Spain, known to many oenophiles as the Sherry Triangle and one of the world's most coveted wine regions. The barrels have aged sherry wine for over 40 years, leaving behind a depth of flavor soaked into the ancient oak staves. The resulting whiskey bursts with rich flavors of vanilla, caramel, dark chocolate and oak. The use of sherry casks in cask finishing has been a popular practice throughout Europe for centuries and Stranahan's Sherry Cask is an American approach to this tradition.Nose : Over-ripe cherry, sweet apples, raisins, almonds, leather and fresh-cut hay.Palate : Honey, Montmorency cherries, blackcurrant, and fig, with a nutty brine and walnut characteristics.Finish : Buttery caramel, whipped creme, brown sugar and smoked cayenne.

Producer Description

Full-bodied as the fire that bore it, STRANAHAN'Sr Whiskey glowed amber from the start. When volunteer firefighter Jess Graber responded to a neighbor's barn fire down the road, he never imagined any good could come of it. The barn he made an effort to save belonged to George Stranahan, long-time spirits connoisseur. The two discovered a shared passion for the Colorado outdoors and a good pour of fine whiskey. And so, STRANAHAN'S Rocky Mountain Single Malt Whiskey was born.Starting out in 2004 as the state's first legal distillery, STRANAHAN'S forged the path for craft distilling in Colorado. Today, STRANAHAN'S maintains the same quality and standards for each batch, and is made in our Denver, Colorado distillery.

NOTES OF

SCENT & FLAVOR

COLOR

Deep colour, almost opaque.

NOSE

Aroma of excellent complexity, with wild bush and spicy notes like curry, pepper and ginger, red berries and black fruits mixed with a light cacao touch, the result of a good maturation, along with a slightly stony finish.

PALATE

On the palate it has a powerful attack, with a lively acidity, firm and well present tannins, wild bush and red berry notes, with an extremely long finish and great concentration.

“Thanks to the characteristics and potential of the vineyards at Quinta do Seixo, it was possible to cut through the strong maturations of this year's harvest. As a result, we produced very balanced and robust wines, with aromatic notes typical of more mature years.” - Luís Sottomayor, head of Sogrape's winemaking

ORIGINS

Quinta do Seixo Vintage is a unique expression of this renowned estate, where a combination of soil, slope inclination, sun exposure and reduced amount of available water contribute to the production of intense and complex wines. The 100-year-old vines producing Port create wines full of intensity, character and freshness.
