Our Bertie Brown Bear Gulch Bourbon is Crafted in Texas, just outside of Austin, and Perfected in Montana. We use the Same Pure Water Source from the Rocky Mountains that Bertie Used to Proof Her Whiskey Almost 100 Years Ago. Our Bourbon is hand selected and aged a minimum of 4 years in new oak barrels. Our whiskey is 70% corn and 27.5% rye, 2.5% malted barley. Then we proof our whiskey from barrel strength to 87 proof at our distillery in Lolo, MT. Our journey to celebrate the women pioneers of distilled spirits begins with Bertie Brown. Bertie Brown - known as "Birdie" to her friends - was a woman of great courage. She was as nice of a woman as they come. Bertie arrived in the Montana Territory in 1898 from Missouri, while she was still in her twenties. She was one of very few young African American women who homesteaded alone in Montana in the 1913. Her homestead was located along Brickyard Creek in Fergus County. During Prohibition, Birdie carved out a niche for herself. Birdie was famous for her warm hospitality, her legendary parlor and for brewing what locals called the "best moonshine in the country.NOTES OF
SCENT & FLAVOR

COLOR
Deep colour, almost opaque.

NOSE
Aroma of excellent complexity, with wild bush and spicy notes like curry, pepper and ginger, red berries and black fruits mixed with a light cacao touch, the result of a good maturation, along with a slightly stony finish.

PALATE
On the palate it has a powerful attack, with a lively acidity, firm and well present tannins, wild bush and red berry notes, with an extremely long finish and great concentration.
“Thanks to the characteristics and potential of the vineyards at Quinta do Seixo, it was possible to cut through the strong maturations of this year's harvest. As a result, we produced very balanced and robust wines, with aromatic notes typical of more mature years.” - Luís Sottomayor, head of Sogrape's winemaking
