Product Description

Rose, fragrant purple flower and botanical herb aromas. The focused palate delivers succulent sour cherry, pomegranate, cinnamon and star anise before a tobacco finish.

Brand Description

Founded in 1761, Borgogno is the oldest continuously operating winery in Barolo. Cesare Borgogno expanded the winery's production in the 1920s and commercial success followed as he became one of the first winemakers from Piedmont to ship wines abroad. In the 1960s, Franco Boschis took over as manager until the Farinetti family bought the estate in 2008. Under Andrea Farinetti's leadership, organic conversion was initiated, and the winery began using only cement vats for fermentation, a return to the original winemaking style. All the wines are made at the estate's winemaking facility in Barolo village in an underground network of historic fermentation and aging rooms. Today, the estate includes 39 hectares with 31 planted to vine. These include five hectares of Timorasso and rows in some of Barolo's most storied vineyards including Liste, Cannubi, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Fossati, and San Pietro delle Viole. Made with long maceration times and minimal intervention, the wines are renowned for their traditional style and long-term aging potential, a favorite of Italian wine professionals and collectors. In the 1920s, Borgogno began holding back half of its production. Since 1961, more than 200 000 bottles have been preserved. Today, the winery continues to offer its clients library releases, including wines that are 20 years old. Borgogno probably has the largest Library Collection of Barolo old vintages of entire the Barolo area.

NOTES OF

SCENT & FLAVOR

COLOR

Deep colour, almost opaque.

NOSE

Aroma of excellent complexity, with wild bush and spicy notes like curry, pepper and ginger, red berries and black fruits mixed with a light cacao touch, the result of a good maturation, along with a slightly stony finish.

PALATE

On the palate it has a powerful attack, with a lively acidity, firm and well present tannins, wild bush and red berry notes, with an extremely long finish and great concentration.

“Thanks to the characteristics and potential of the vineyards at Quinta do Seixo, it was possible to cut through the strong maturations of this year's harvest. As a result, we produced very balanced and robust wines, with aromatic notes typical of more mature years.” - Luís Sottomayor, head of Sogrape's winemaking

ORIGINS

Quinta do Seixo Vintage is a unique expression of this renowned estate, where a combination of soil, slope inclination, sun exposure and reduced amount of available water contribute to the production of intense and complex wines. The 100-year-old vines producing Port create wines full of intensity, character and freshness.
